Buckets: what they are and why they are useful

Buckets are equipment designed for handling bulk materials by loading and unloading. The materials that can be moved with this tool include grain, flour, wood chips, brushwood, soil, waste, sand, and debris.

We can therefore say that these tools are used to lift, transport, load (and unload) various types of loose materials.

Additionally, buckets can also be used for excavation and moving soil.

Why Buckets are important in the Industrial Sector

As mentioned earlier, they are a convenient and effective solution for handling both small and large quantities of material from ground level to height.

The choice can vary based on specific needs: there are larger, higher-capacity models that allow a large amount of material to be lifted in one go, and smaller models, useful for reduced lifting or for construction sites characterized by small spaces.

Their importance extends to various industrial fields, including:

  • Mining Sector: Buckets are essential for extracting and moving raw materials, such as minerals and rocks, making extraction processes more efficient.
  • Waste Management and Recycling: In this sector, they are used for collecting, moving, and sorting waste materials, improving the management of industrial waste.
  • Metallurgical Industry: They are used in the movement of metal scrap, facilitating the recycling and melting of metals, which are key processes in the metallurgical industry.
  • Port Logistics and Shipyards: Bulk materials moved in ports often involve raw materials and products used in industrial processes.
  • Infrastructure Construction: In this case, they are used in the construction of industrial infrastructure, such as plants, warehouses, and other facilities needed for production and logistics.

Where to mount Buckets and how to do it

To use buckets, they must be mounted on other machinery or equipment, such as loaders and cranes.

Let’s look at some of the machines on which a bucket can be mounted:

  • Cranes: These buckets resemble a claw as they consist of two parts that close to grab and lift materials.
  • Industrial Loaders: In this case, large buckets are often used to move heavy materials (gravel, industrial waste, etc.).
  • Excavators: In this context, they are used for digging and moving soil, rocks, sand, and other materials. They can have different shapes and sizes, depending on the work they are used for.
  • Tractors: When tractors need to be equipped with front loaders, buckets are used. They are often used for handling forage and fertilizers.
  • Telehandlers: These are equipped with buckets to lift and transport bulk materials to great heights.

As you can see, the bucket is the final part that must be mounted on a mechanical arm.

Think of a crane: the bucket is mounted at the end of the crane’s arm, also known as the lifting hook. However, hydraulic buckets follow a different process. In this case, they can be connected through a hydraulic system, where the hydraulic oil hoses are connected between the bucket and the crane’s hydraulic system to allow the movement of the jaws.

Depending on the bucket and the machine on which it is mounted, there are specific steps to follow, but it must always be at the end of the mechanical arm to move and transport the material in question.

Using Buckets safely

Safety is a crucial aspect of using buckets, especially when handling heavy materials and during potentially risky operations. Every stage, from assembly to operation, must be carried out with extreme precision to avoid accidents and ensure the safety of operators.

At Meccanica Zini, safety is always a priority. Every process is carried out with scrupulous attention, following all safety regulations, and ensuring that each piece of equipment is perfectly compatible with the machinery. Only in this way can we ensure effective and risk-free operations, protecting both the operators and the integrity of the structures involved.
